Watson presumed to take winger position for Blues.

Doc to treat strikers with superb balls!

The Blue Balls have continued to favour precision over showmanship with Dan’s BandCampaign guest, Shayfer James, selecting the no fuss, finger picking guitarist Doc Watson to fill a position on the wing.

Initial concerns over Watson’s ability to play, given that he is blind, was quickly put to rest when his team mates saw what he could do during a midnight training session. His transition from bluegrass to green grass appeared seamless.

“His ability to find deep gaps and perform look away passes is second to none.” remarked one teammate, who also commented on the respectful relationship the guitarist shared with officials. “He seems to really get along well with the referees! It’s like they are kindred spirits.”

Blind ambition and a knack for pickin’ gaps in the opposing defence may result in some glorious memories for the Blue Balls, who will announce their next selection in December 2015.

Dan’s BandCampaign Episode 7 – Shayfer James

How do you best describe the music made by someone referred to by others as “The Villain King of New Jersey’s noir-pop scene” or “The Pied Piper of the Garden State”? However you describe it, you wouldn’t be doing it justice, that’s for sure. If it were a recipe for a musical cake, you’d perhaps need the following ingredients:

- A leaky bucket of Tom Waits styled romping and lyrical storytelling
- A pint of Muse’s Matt Bellamy’s wails
- A circus clown’s car worth of chaos
- Rinse through an old theater’s red curtain…twice

Shayfer is a master storyteller and is able to adopt characters and roles that range from the somber to the twisted, from the glorious to the pure evil. There is so much life in his pieces and each and every aspect of each and every song is crafted with care to truly squeeze out every once of musty, beer stained, heartbreaking, philosophical drop. His music is a journey into the dark side and back again…and you’ll love every minute once you acclimatize!

His music is available through bandcamp.com – The Band Campaign continues…

Official Bio:

Shayfer James weaves surprisingly genuine musical landscapes that evoke the gauzy, sweaty sexuality of gulf-coast barrooms and the fantastical, narcotic mysticism of a Lewis Carroll-inspired three-ring circus. Mr. James’ noir-infused, piano driven music swaggers from dark danceable anthems to harrowing ballads with jazz lilted satire and whiskey-dirt grit. Raised with one foot in the theater and the other in a dingy night club, Shayfer finds inspiration as frequently in Cole Porter and Stephen Sondheim as he does in Fiona Apple, Danny Elfman, The Rolling Stones, Elvis Costello, The Pogues, and The White Stripes. He has toured the U.S., and has performed at festivals and events like CMJ NYC, Art Basel, Miami, Foburg Festival, New Orleans, CBGBs Festival, NYC, and Hope & Glory, Hong Kong. His songs have been featured by WNYC.org and Filter Magazine online, and his second album, “Counterfeit Arcade”, was dubbed ‘New and Noteworthy’ by iTunes. Shayfer has independently released two LPs and 3 EPs since 2010, with the newest EP, “Haunted Things” out September 22, 2015.
